Comrade Stephen OSEMWEGIE is a Nigerian human rights activist and pro-democracy campaigner who is based in the United States, he is a visionary leader, a philanthropist that is dedicated to bringing about positive change in Nigerian political landscape.

Known for active role in the support for HE., Mr. Peter Gregory Obi of the Labour Party during the 2023 presidential elections and the OBIdient Movement. Beginning from his university days in University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu State, he has been known for his exemplary leadership, unwavering integrity, dedication, and commitment to service.

He served as the President of the National Association of Edo State Students (NAESS) UNN Chapter, and also as the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) for National Association of Edo Students (NAESS). OSEMWEGIE has made significant contributions in various fields, including politics, academia, real estate, and social activism.

 

Early Life, Family and Education

OSEMWEGIE was born in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, to Mr. Abusomwan Alfred OSEMWEGIE and Mrs. Patience Evbusogie OSEMWEGIE. Growing up in the G.R.A Benin City, he attended Ebenezer Primary School and Immaculate Conception College, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors.

In 2005, Stephen Osemwegie gained admission to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he studied Geoinformatics and Surveying at the Enugu Campus. He actively participated in student politics, serving in various leadership positions.

Notably, as the President of the National Association of Edo State Students (NAESS) UNN Chapter for the 2006/2007 academic year. He later became the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) for NAESS in 2008. Comrade Stephen OSEMWEGIE is haply married with children.

 

Business and Political Background

OSEMWEGIE hails from a family deeply rooted in agriculture, with their subsistence farming business becoming a significant part of his upbringing. He acquired valuable skills in agriculture from his father, who was actively engaged in the family’s agricultural endeavors.

Additionally, his father’s involvement as a grassroots politician in the then SDP (Social Democratic Party) and later the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) exposed OSEMWEGIE to the world of politics at an early age. So far, he has been exposed to progressive leadership, grassroots mobilization, and social networking skills.

 

Academic and Professional Excellence

Graduating at the top of his class in 2010 from the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka, he caught the attention of an international aerospace company, which recruited him straight from campus due to his outstanding academic credentials and performance.

OSEMWEGIE’s professional journey led him to roles as a GIS analyst at Aerosprecisa Ltd, where he actively participated in state-wide aerial survey mapping, and as a contract staff member at Shell Petroleum Development Company.

At Shell Petroleum, he contributed to pipeline construction and repairs, emergency response operations, and environmental restoration efforts. Later, he transitioned to the real estate industry, joining Royal House Realty in Queens, New York, where he specialized in residential property sales and rentals.

Philanthropy and Political Activism

Driven by his passion for Nigeria and Nigerians socioeconomic development, OSEMWEGIE founded the non-profit organization called Save Nigeria Group USA.    Through this organization, he has been instrumental in providing relief efforts, supporting free and fair elections, and advocating for positive change in Nigeria.

OSEMWEGIE recognized the power of social media, particularly Twitter, as a platform for political activism. He actively utilized this medium to support the Labour Party candidate Peter OBi during the Nigerian Presidential Election in 2023.

Through his Twitter handle @PeterObiUSA, he mobilized global support, raised funds, and organized awareness campaigns. Additionally, OSEMWEGIE hosted influential online discussions, including the longest-running 24-hour Twitter spaces, fostering engagement and galvanizing support for causes he believed in.
